Business Tax Benefits

Question: Small Business Fleet Tax Question?
I’m a small business owner looking to buy or lease a fleet of trucks, about five to seven. When is comes to tax benefits, do I get more or better tax benefits from leasing a commercial fleet, or are there more or better tax benefits if I buy my fleet. Does anyone have a good answer(s), if so, can you explain in plain English, what are the tax advantages and disadvantages of both options. My many thanks.
Answer: The two above gave great advise. All I can ad is, in Canada it does not matter if you lease or buy. You can write off up to $850 per month per vehicle.( great advise above regarding turning a profit or not).

Small Business Tax Table

Question: Can SIN number show where someone is working for child support?
I discovered that my nephew’s father was working under the table from one of my friends. Got the government to contact the company which i am pretty sure it is and they rudely denied he is there. Can the government find this out through his SIN number? He may be getting paid under a different name, or with no record but i find this not possible cause it seems like a small business type that would pay with cheques. He also hasn’t filed taxes in 3 years can’t the government do anything about that, or about not paying child support for 3 + years? my sister has called every maitenence agency and still no payment. Thanks for advice.
Answer: If he is working legally, he can be found by his SIN. The courts may be able to garnish his wages, however if it hasnt filed taxes there may be problems.
Ask your sister to check with a lawyer what her rights may be. Lawyer Referal Service (if you have one in your area) can give you the name of a family lawyer and for only a few dollars, your sister can meet with them for a half hour. If you dont, try legal aid or call a local university that has a law deptartment. Somtimes law students can help free of charge (they are actually quite good).

Business Expense Reimbursement Form

Question: For tax purposes, can I write off expenses that I did not get reimbursed for from my employer last year?
I normally submit my expenses (such as business-related travel) through my employer for reimbursement each month. If I forgot to submit some expenses last year and it is now to late to do so through my employer, can I still account for these somewhere on my income tax form?
Answer: Sorry, but if you failed to request reimbursement from your employer for items that they would normally reimburse you for you cannot deduct them on your taxes. To be deductible an item must be required by your employer AND your employer refuses to reimburse them. Your employer would have reimbursed you had you filed a timely expense report, so you lose the deduction as well.
