Business Tax File Numbers

Question: In Nevada, is seller’s permit number the same as tax ID number?
I’m getting confused by all the different numbers and the auto-response machines at the department of taxation.
So my question is:
1. Is a seller’s permit number the same as the tax ID number in NV?
Then there are a bunch of other numbers: NV business ID, Entity number, etc.2. If I did the initial filing (which was somehow put together with the business license appliation),
am I allowed to write the Resale certificate (http://www.tax.state.nv.us/documents/Resale_Cert_22509.pdf) that was here?: http://www.tax.state.nv.us/forms.htmSo for the “seller’s permit number” would I write my tax ID?
Answer: Reseller’s number and sales tax id, likely yes – not the other numbers you mention.

Question: When will someone who doesn’t pay taxes get caught?
I know someone who is a small-business owner and also works part-time in construction under the table. He makes about 60k a year but hasn’t paid taxes in 2 years. He brags about it and buys extravagant things that he charges on his cc and never pays the bills. It infuriates me because I am a small-business owner and STRUGGLE to pay my taxes but I always do! When or will he even get caught by the IRS? I hear if you make under a certain amount of money they don’t even bother auditing you?
Answer: Sorry to give bad news but unless his boss is giving a 1099 to the gov’t he will never get audited. There is no proof that he worked. The biggest misconception is that you have to file taxes. I know of people (strippers for example) that have not files taxes in over 10 years and they are also self-employed making over 60K. But once again there is no record of the money they made.

Self Employment Tax Georgia

Question: Need help with collecting PAST DUE child support?
I have a Support order in place with the Georgia Department of Child Support Enforcement, however, my ex still does not pay. He is self employed and this year has paid half of what is owed ($4300 in arrears) CSE stated that he had to be 60 CONSECUTIVE days behind before they could do anything. What else can I do??? It is obvious that the state is too overloaded and understaffed to help me, I can’t afford a lawyer but my children NEED that money. Last year they intercepted his tax refund but held for 6 months incase his new wife needed to file injured spouse or he could come up with a reason they shouldnt send it to his kids! (just as a side note he and his new wife work together in their self-employment and he supports her 2 children)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Answer: When an income tax check is intercepted, it is held in escrow for 6 months in all states. The new spouse is entitled to file paperwork to receive her/his share of the tax refund. That is just how the law works.
Unfortunately if they have protocol set for when they can inforce, it appears that you are under the enforcement offices mercy. Can you go in and talk to the caseworker or enforcement officer? When was the last time he paid? Is it possible to file a contempt charge against him for not following a court order?
