Business Expense Software

Question: Can I write off business expenses incurred before the business was established?
I plan to file the paperwork to start either an LLC or INC later this month for a web-based business. (I’m still researching which will work best for our situation.) But, I’d like to get started on the web development immediately. If I buy web hosting, domain names, web software, etc. today, can I still write it off as a business expense after I’ve officially created the business?
Answer: Yes. You can pay for it personally, then “reimburse” yourself from the company. Keep all the associated receipts with your business records.

Question: Business Tax Software vs. Accountant?
Hello.
I started my business last year (May 2008). Is it best to use an Accountant for filing my taxes, or is Business Tax software better?
If I went with an Accountant, what information is required?
Answer: the last guy sounded like an accountant.
If you choose to bring your work to a professional, check out many of the independent businesses specializing in Taxes, Accounting, etc. Many of them are completely competent and often up to 75% cheaper than overpriced CAs, CPAs, CGAs etc who charge you for their name and pricey office. A lot of work gets done by $12 per hour articling students, but the invoice gets signed by the $350 per hour “ACCOUNTANT”.Call around, check references, ask how long they have been in business. You can tell if someone knows their job. GOOD LUCK WITH THIS, with your business, and don’t get ripped off.

Question: Do I really need quickbooks for my new small retail business?
I am in the process of putting together my business plan for a new retail business. I have been planning for my initial expenses and am wondering if I really need quickbooks. I am a fairly intelligent person with a college degree. Although the degree is not in finance, I did take accounting courses. Is it necessary to use a program like this or should I be able to do my own basic accounting with a little self training? Of course, I will have an accountant who will do my quarterly reports and tax filing.
Answer: for $140 and a PC its not a big expense for it. It will do all your invoices as well as accounting, keep track of customers, late payments, provide reports for sales tax purposes, etc. etc. It does a lot more than just accounting.

County’s top job: Get more jobs
St. Johns County wants to raise the percentage of its Business Tax base from 11 percent to 30 percent, but first the commission must consider a slate of changes — some of them radical — in how the county currently attracts industry. The benefit is substantial: Expanding the Business Tax base to 30 percent means $26 million more tax revenue every year. County Administrator Mike Wanchick on …
