Small Business Tax Advisors

Question: How to change from accounting and become an investment advisor?

HI,

I have been in accounting for 2 and a half years now, and I do public accounting, so I see a lot of clients like dentists, doctors, CEO’s & lots of small business owners when it comes to personal tax season. Due to the recession, I got laid off from the firm and joined another firm, which the working condition is quite horrible. Meanwhile, I want to become an investment advisor with companies that they call themselves XXX capital partners. I have no idea how to write a cover letter and resume for an Investment Advisor position, because all of my resumes are very accounting oriented. I believe the position could be sale oriented. I am to the point that I choose unemployment than stay at my current accounting firm.

PS. I will be getting an accounting designation and become a professional accountant in December 2009.

I appreciate all guidance in advance.

Question: Small Business Owner – Tax Filing?

I started a business at the end of 2006 in which I purchased a few thousand dollars of equipment and supplies. I didn’t provide any services or collect any money until 07′….can I write off some of my business expenses on my return for 06′ even though I didn’t actually provide any services until 07′?

Answer: You have to capitalize those costs.

Capitalize means you combine those costs into an asset called “Organization Costs” and you amortize those costs over fifteen years (180 months). You capitalize because you have no revenue to take these expenses against in full this year.

If your startup costs are under $50,000, the law does allow you to write off $5,000 and then amortize the rest over 180 months, or 15 years.

The H&R Block guys are not necessarily the best. I audited many returns and assessed a lot of tax on H&R Block returns. . .

Small Business Tax Credits For 2009

Question: Will the Republicans keep their word and vote for the deal with President Obama?

Consider that they have not kept one single deal they have brokered with President Obama or the Democrats since they took office in 2009. They broke the deal on Credit Card Reform. They broke the deal on Health Care Reform. They broke the deal on Finance Reform. They broke the deal on tax relief for the real small businesses. They even broke the deal they made earlier this year on passing the extension of the Bush Tax cuts, what makes anyone believe that the House and Senate Republicans will actually keep this deal?

Answer: Obama is much smarter then most give him credit for, he knows what he is doing. Just watch the show for the next 2 years.

Question: What steps do I need to take to start a small massage business going to other peoples homes in Pennsylvania?

I have already done the schooling and have been doing massage for 7 years but never had my own business. What c=kind of steps do I have to take. Can I just start going to people’s homes and then just keep records when it comes to tax time enter my earnings and pay taxes on them? Not sure where to start. I am legitimate so no smart remarks please. I only plan on Massaging women bc sometimes men usually tend to put you in awkward situations. I have been through too much of that in the past. The only way I would massage a man is if his wife or significant other would be in the home. Thanks for your time!

Answer: Get a business license and advertise.
A simple monetary book to keep track of payments, expenses.
Keep track of mileage, gas, tires, oil and repairs for deductions. Keep your reciepts.
I would avoid using an internet connected computer to record activities and money. You could also partner up with a man and hit clients homes at the same time thus avoiding embarrassing situations and other hazardous environments. Also include in your ads, “Satisfaction. Not happy endings” or something similar that shows a quality of service.
