Question: Can SIN number show where someone is working for child support?
I discovered that my nephew’s father was working under the table from one of my friends. Got the government to contact the company which i am pretty sure it is and they rudely denied he is there. Can the government find this out through his SIN number? He may be getting paid under a different name, or with no record but i find this not possible cause it seems like a small business type that would pay with cheques. He also hasn’t filed taxes in 3 years can’t the government do anything about that, or about not paying child support for 3 + years? my sister has called every maitenence agency and still no payment. Thanks for advice.
Answer: If he is working legally, he can be found by his SIN. The courts may be able to garnish his wages, however if it hasnt filed taxes there may be problems.
Ask your sister to check with a lawyer what her rights may be. Lawyer Referal Service (if you have one in your area) can give you the name of a family lawyer and for only a few dollars, your sister can meet with them for a half hour. If you dont, try legal aid or call a local university that has a law deptartment. Somtimes law students can help free of charge (they are actually quite good).

Small Business Tax Tables

Question: Small Business Question?
I have recently started a small furniture business. I, of course, purchase items at wholesale from a wholesaler/distributor. My dilemma is…I have no idea on how to mark-up or price the items for retail sale. For example, one of my tables is listed at $42 for me.. What do I price it at for the public? Do i need to include taxes, inflation, etc? I have no ideal. Thanks for your help in advance…
Answer: That guys right i would just do it double, sometimes i like to add up a few dollers to cover the shipping especially if you have to put an item down at half off you dont want to be in the negative. You dont add the tax on untill you ring them up. I know a retail store near me sometimes marks hers up 2.5-3 times more example: you $42 public x2 =$84 or $42×2.5=$105 its all up to you!! Just remember if another store sells the same thing near you, i reccomend matching their price or going lower. Best of luck

Question: How do I compute taxes from the sale of shares?
I owned some shares in my family’s business. When the business was sold, I received $55,000. How do I include this on my tax return? When I added it to my salary and looked at the tax table, it said I owe over $18,000. Please help!
Answer: If it is like stock you take what you originally paid, divided by the number of shares. Then take the number of current shares and divide that into what you sold it for. The difference times the number of shares is your "cost basis." But paying taxes on the increase (or decrease) of stock value is NOT adding what you sold the business for to your regular salary. THis is a time to pay someone to do your taxes so you don't get audited.
