Question: How to calculate state and local taxes for paycheck in Los Angeles county based business?

Hi, I just started a very small business in El Segundo which is a part of LA County. I’m handling the payroll, and I was hoping that I could get some help calculating a paycheck. The employee is a single male and his salary is $12/hour with a total of 100 hours logged over a 3 week period (1200 total) with no benefits. Normally payments are made twice a month, but pay was not sent on the first of this month. Should I still calculate the Fed withholding tax as 2x a month or just change it as monthly for this pay period? Can I do that? Also note that this employee is a temporary worker.

So far I have social security, Medicare, and the fed withholding tax figured out (just not sure if I should calculate it as 2x a month or monthly payperiod). I’m not sure how to calculate the State and Local taxes at all and would appreciate if someone could either tell me or lead me to a site where I can find out how. Should I worry about any other calculations?

Answer: Same as anywhere else in the state

Question: How can anyone believe we can gix this economy without a tax hike ?

A few years ago my country had its own financial crises. We were in debt and foreign investors were pulling out. For five years we have a stabilization levy. Everyone in the public service lost 10 % of pay, and private businesses. 5%.
At first the opposition complained , but eventually after 7 years (i.e. longer than anticipated), we got back on top our debt. Now everyone else in the world is paying for this new economic crisis.
When people say ” Universal Health Care is not free, its taxed” I am stupified. Really ? well how else do you expect it to be paid ! ? Grants from China ?? or More inport tax on us third world countries ?

If we in a Caribbean island can take a 10% salary cut for 7 years and survive … you in the USA can survive whatever tax increase is necessary to get your country’s debt down.

Its called sacrifice people !
Well, I hate to give personal information and stuff on the internet. Let’s just say I live on one of the Windward Islands.

Answer: What debt? I signed nothing, the governments debt has nothing to do with me.

Answer: move to brooklyn then. Anything in the city will be a fortune and very small. Apartments are very hard to find in the city. it’s not like on TV. Lear the train systems cause owning a car in the city is extremely expensive car port rents are almost as much as an apartment. Good luck.
