Question: My kids’ childcare provider won’t give me her EIN number!?
I called her last week and she said she couldn’t give me the information at the time because she was busy. She told me she would call me the next day. Well, she didn’t call me and I’ve been trying to get a hold of her since then and she won’t even answer her phone. I’m at the point of dropping by her house (my kids don’t go there anymore) and confronting her directly. My husband thinks she’s trying to avoid claiming the income we paid her (which was a lot!) and that’s why she’s not giving us the info.
Is there anyway I can the her EIN# another way? We’re talking about several thousand dollars here.
Answer: Send her a W-9 request form along with a letter stating why you are requesting her EIN. If she fails to furnish her correct EIN, she will be subject to penalties of $50 for each request you send. You may wish to highlight that in your letter to her. Here is a link to the form:
