Question: doing our taxes married and have two business and rental property?

im married and have to LLC business and four rental properties. can i do my regular married filing taxes now and do my Business Taxes another time?

Answer: If you have elected to have your LLC taxed as a corporation, then its return must be done before your personal one so it can give you the K-1 you’ll need for your personal return. If you didn’t elect to have the LLC taxed as a corporation, then it’s reported as part of your personal return. So in either case no, you can’t let the Business Taxes go until later.

Question: How to get state employer tax id number?

Recently I started a small business. Now I am planning to have employees. I have incorporated my business in VA and have obtained Federal tax id number. I realized that I also need to have a state tax id. I have heard that I can obtain it online. I attempted searching for it but did not find any useful links. I did get lots of site that can do it for me for a charge, but what I am looking for is a government website where I can do it myself. Any help is appreciated.

Answer: go back to the Secretary of State’s Office. They should be able to provide you with the necessary application or direct you to the appropriate office.

Question: Self Employment Tax Scenario — need advice please!?

Hello,

I need advice from tax-savvy people. I plan on working as an independent contractor for a company for 27 hours a week and plan to pull in roughly $28000 in 2009 for the work. However, as I understand it I will have to make quarterly federal (about 20%) and state (about 5%) tax payment estimates, but ALSO will have to pay self-employment taxes at the end of the year (about 15%) — if I am wrong about any of this please correct me. Is this worth it in your opinion or should I axe this position as the tax burdens are not advantageous? I do not have considerable expenses to write of on schedule C either and I would say that my definition as an independent contractor is arguable.

Answer: If that’s your only job, then your assumptions are close although your estimate for federal income tax is probably high. If this is a side job, a second job, you’re probably real close.

The other thing is – you don’t just pay the taxes at the end of the year, or you’ll be penalized. You’ll need to make quarterly estimated payments.

I’m looking for free public records for a business I need to get the EIN (employer identification numb) of an arizona based buisness. I have already checked with the az corp commission and maricopa county parcels and tax records with no luck. I sincerely appreciate any help you can offer.

Answer: recorder.maricopa.gov has almost everything. Most employers treat their EIN the same way a private citizen would treat their personal Social Security Number. You would not want it published anywhere. The IRS expects you to get this by phone from the employer. If the employer is no longer in business, you can write a hardship letter to the IRS explaining the problem.
