Independent Contractor Taxes Deductions
Question: I work as an Independent Contractor, what is Tax liability for 2008?
I did an estimate calculation on the IRS.gov website and it gives me $6000 and I am freaked out about it. Info on my situation:
I work as an independent contractor so I would get a 1099 misc at the end of the year. My total income was about $24000 for the year.
My deductions are from student loan interest ($1600 for the year) and also my laptop which is primarily for work purposes ($1200).
What would my estimate be? PLEASE HELP…having a panic attack here.
Answer: That sounds about right, sorry.

Question: I am opening a income tax return business. How much do I Charge?
I am going to be opening a tax company in 2009 and i am in the state of North Carolina. How much should I charge my customers per hour?
what is is lowest I should charge and what is the most I should charge per hour
Answer: If you are planning to open a legit business involving money, then you should already have an idea. If not, do this:
Make a list of what services you'll be charging money for. Then price them through 2 to 4 of your major competitors, get a good average, then go with that. Personally I'd try to beat the competitors if at all possible.

Question: Is this fair to tax workers and employees but close eyes on business enterprises not tax them?
The Malaysian Government never fail to tax poor workers and employees. If we workers or employees buy new car or house, income tax ask us where we earned the money to buy a car or house. But how about many eatery shops (makan stalls) earning daily few hundreds and thousands a month are who owns a chain of restaurants in Klang valley so filthy rich? I heard many restaurent owners submit false income tax returns because they engage accountants who submit manipulated accounts for the rich restaurent owners? How far is this true?
Answer: I fully agree with you. Many of these own businesses especially eateries are making tonnes of money but they know how to find ways to under declare their profits. Not only on tax evasion but the government seems to take more harsh action against individual tax defaulters ( which most don't owe that much probably in few thousands only ) than big companies. Individuals who fail to pay their tax after a few years get the risk of being barrred from leaving the country but look at Air Asia. The company collected airport tax from it's passengers but the tax ( in millions of ringgit ) but failed to pay to Malaysia Airport. No action was taken against the company. One of my friends who works ( senior position ) with Malaysia Airport told me that the company was unable to do much because of involvement of politics. If you or me failed to pay a few thousands, we won't be able to go overseas anymore.
