Question: How to change name on EIN for a LLC?
An LLC has three members and one member is leaving. How can the EIN be transferred to the members? It is our understanding that EIN is issued to a business, not an individual.
Answer: A corporation is its own entity. in my biz, my partner and i just act as if we work for it even though its ours. If one member is leaving i would assume your ein would stay the same only minus one officer.. i could be way off...

Tax Deductible Expenses Canada

Question: Tax questions for part-year resident of Canada and US.?
I moved to Canada in 2007, and have in come in both the US and Canada. I have a couple of questions related to this.
1) Should I deduct my moving expenses deductible on my US return or on my Canadian return? I continued to pay for a vacant house in the US for a few months after the move.
2) During the first part of 2007 (before the move to Canada), I worked in another state. I lived in Ohio, but rented an apartment in Pennsylvania and flew back to Ohio every weekend (the family did not move) to teach during a one-semester sabbatical teaching position. Is any of this deductible? The travel, the apartment rental? My initial thoughts are “no,” but there may be something I’m not thinking of.
Thanks for any tips.
Answer: You can deduct your moving expenses on the US return. (If Canada lets you do there too, go for it.)
If the teaching assignment was LESS than 1 year, use publication 463 to determine your allowable expenses. These go on schedule A and can trigger AMT.
