Small Business Taxes Online

Question: I have started an online small business. I am based in ohio. How do I handle sales tax?
I will be selling to all states in the USA and internationally as well.
Answer: Your online Ohio business, if it has no connection to other states (other than online sales), only needs to collect and remit Ohio sales tax on sales shipped to Ohio addresses. You can register with Ohio online at the link below. You will NOT need to collect and remit sales tax for sales shipped to other states.
Ohio also has a new CAT (commercial activities tax) which is imposed on the seller. The good news is you only need to register if your annual taxable gross receipts are more than $150,000 and there is no CAT tax on the first $1 million of annual sales. You can read more about it on the OH website.
