Question: how do I reconcile my SSN and my New EIN on 1040-ES?
I am self employed and already filed estimated quarterly taxes (Q1 2009) on form 1040-ES using my SSN. I just recently got a federal tax id number (EIN). Can I simply add this number to my Q2 1040-ES? How can I associate the old 1040-ES with SSN with my New EIN?
Answer: You should only use your SSN on the 1040-ES.
You will put both numbers on your Schedule C.
The IRS already knows that those two numbers go together.
Your EIN is used mostly for forms relating to when you pay your employees. If you don't have employees you won't use the EIN very often.
