Question: I created a business, but it never left the planning stage. Do I need to dissolve it before filing taxes.?
I create a Sole Proprietorship in the beginning of 2008 in anticipation of starting my own business. However the business never left the planning stages. The papers were filed with the IRS to establish a tax ID number to legally form the business, but it never made it any further. Do I have to legally dissolve the business before filing taxes in 2009?
Answer: No, you have nothing to dissolve since you created nothing. Getting the EIN did nothing. As a matter of fact, you can use that same EIN for any sole proprietorship that you start in the future.
